Diskit Gompa is the oldest and the largest Buddhist monastery in the scenic Nubra valley of Ladakh. The town itself is the nerve centre of the valley. The Gompa is situated on a hill, just above the flood plains of the Shylok river. The 32 metre imposing statue of Maitreya Buddha dominates the entire landscape and commands a panoramic view of the lush valley.
