Chandrataal, also known as the “moon lake” is situated at an altitude of about 4,300 metres in the Spiti part of the Lahul and Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh. It is a remote, but popular destination for trekkers and campers. The deep blue waters of the lake are the source of the Chandra river. The landscape is unique with the blue of the lake contrasting with the purple hues of the rugged brown rolling mountains. The lake is accessible from Batal and Kunzum Pass from late May to early October.
